Frequently asked questions

What is 3M ceramic coating made of?

It is a siloxane polymer blend coating, sold under product numbers PN 39901, 39903 and 39905.

What does a water contact angle above 100 degrees mean?

The water contact angle is the angle a water droplet makes with the paint; the wider it is, the more the water beads up. In 3M’s specification the ceramic coating has a contact angle of more than 100 degrees.

Is the 5-year durability of the ceramic coating a warranty?

They are not the same thing. 3M states the durability of the coating as 5 years, while the shop’s warranty is offered as 1-year, 3-year and 5-year programmes.

Do I have to bring the car in for inspections to keep the warranty?

Yes. The 1-year, 3-year and 5-year ceramic coating programmes ask you to bring the car in for inspection on the schedule the shop sets. If you do, the warranty does not lapse.

Which ceramic coating programmes are there?

There are four programmes: 1 Shot, 1 year, 3 years and 5 years. The 1-, 3- and 5-year programmes are the warranty periods.
